Field Notes: Crater Lake Rim Run

Every time the trees opened up, the lake stopped me cold. It is impossibly blue.

Altitude

At 7,000+ ft the climbs hit harder than the profile suggests. Arrive a couple of days early if you live at sea level.

Logistics

Lodging inside the park is scarce; most runners base in Klamath Falls. There is no shade on the rim, so sun protection matters.

Would I travel for it again?

Absolutely — it's a short season and a special place.
