Point-to-point course

You finish in a different place than you start, so plan for transport back to your car or lodging.

Airport → start: 50 minAirport → finish: 20 min

Small regional airport with limited direct flights; many runners fly into Rochester (ROC, ~90 min) or Syracuse (SYR, ~90 min) and drive. Point-to-point course requires shuttle coordination. Corning lodging books quickly — reserve early.

Arrive Friday for expo; shuttle buses from Corning to start are well-organized but strictly timed. Corning is compact — most hotels are walkable to the finish and post-race festival. Finger Lakes wine country makes for an ideal weekend extension.

Best for / avoid if

Best for

  • BQ seekers
  • first-time marathoners
  • destination racers
  • fall foliage lovers
  • wine country travelers
  • Boston qualification seekers
  • scenic road race fans

Avoid if

  • you want technical or hilly trail running
  • you dislike point-to-point shuttle logistics
  • you need warm weather racing
  • prefer urban or technical courses

First-timer mistakes

Missing the shuttle — the last bus from Corning departs at 7:00am sharp and from Bath at 7:30am; arriving late means missing your start. Also, the full marathon start area has very limited indoor warming space on cold mornings.

Race history

Race-trip notes

Corning is a compact, walkable small city with the Corning Museum of Glass as a world-class anchor attraction. Arrive Friday for the Health & Fitness Expo, run the optional 5K on Saturday, and plan at least two nights. Finger Lakes wineries are a natural post-race reward.

About this race

Held annually on the first Sunday of October since 1982, the Wineglass Marathon follows a mostly flat, net-downhill course along valley roads with a paved trail segment, finishing alongside the Chemung River in downtown Corning. The race is Boston-qualifying, capped at 2,800 full marathon finishers, and paired with a sold-out half marathon, 5K, and spring 8K.
